At Texas PTA, we believe in strong public schools and the power of informed families. The release last week of Texas school ratings offers a glimpse of how our campuses are performing—but it’s just that: a brief glimpse.
Texas PTA stands with our public schools and the educators who show up every day for Texas students. While we value accountability, these ratings don’t tell the full story of our schools, students, or the dedicated educators who serve them. Some districts have received lower ratings this year—even as student scores improved—raising serious concerns about how school success is being measured.
Texas PTA will continue to advocate to provide a meaningful state-wide school accountability system that more broadly reviews school and district performance, includes a family engagement component, accurately reflects a student’s readiness for future success, and opposes outcomes-based funding. This is one of our lead priorities for the 89th Legislative Session.
Decades of research tell us that strong parent and family engagement is one of the biggest drivers of student and school success and Texas PTA hopes to see future accountability systems recognize and reflect the power of these partnerships.
Our schools are more than a letter grade. They are places of growth, support, and possibility. Texas PTA remains committed to advocating for fair, complete, and transparent measures that truly reflect what’s happening in our public schools.
